Why production in Nepal is low?

Undoubtedly, Nepal is least developed nation having both economic and social discrepancies. In recent decades, the social aspect has progressed by far if we have to compare economic aspect, i.e. poverty rate, Gini-coefficient rate, human development index (HDI), child mortality rate, etc.   As Marxist viewed poverty as class discrimination to another who have resource to control other. Therefore, the social aspect of a country is linked with its economic aspect. If we leave classical point of view on poverty and take either neo-classical or Keynesian, an individual's vulnerability is a responsibility of a system where s/he lives.   Why so? Why we as a country are not proactive? What we lack? How we can catch-up world economies? These are the common questions normally spans our head. For this we Nepalese have our own generations by generations old answer- bad politics and corruption. Somewhat true but certainly incomplete answer. Our economic structure and focus is...

You know Harry..

Dear Harry  (second part)   Greetings! Cold right, I mean weather. Certainly not to confused with me. Dear, responsibility cost the bills (to pay) on the top this damn "corona". Apolitical persona like me was hardly hit by policies of carefree government- survive on own but keep paying tax buddy! Shit. This is now real cold. You can figure out- I am the sailor who had all those hit from big storm at the sea and just made it to shore after great balance. Pardon me, harry! You remember Mr. Tamang? Yeah, you heard him- fellow villager of maddy. Mr. Tamang got back from upper solukhumbu on the 9 th day he left for. His boss then for few days got altitude sickness- headache and nausea. They sheltered with us till that Swedish guy ready to board further. Mr. Tamang got more pay for more days while I got more days to hear maddy's lost and found story. Harry let me run you through Mr. Tamang say, "Paudel sir was very happy when he heard that his son started to tea...

Booming security market

Security market was most ignored investment avenue, what are those reason that hyped this avenue from 293 to 2823.06 Nepse Index? The trading trend in Nepalese capital market is bit different from world capital market. People invest on share seeking for bonus and right share since Nepalese share has return only once in a fiscal year that is, dividend. People are more inclined to fix deposit account of banks and financial institute than securities market as interest rate is higher than return from capital market. Most of the country's 50% and more securities in Capital market are transact for government securities but in our case this doesn't stand true. BFIs have dominant in security market. Negative comments, NEPSE inefficiency, NRB regulation regarding margin lending policy, unaware people, and more investment in import and gold business and weak online trading backlash the Nepalese share market.  The increment in capital requirement of A,B and C BFIs as fixed by NRB on FY ...

COVID-19, economy and policy

The worldwide uncertainty created by COVID infection is ongoing after it started from wuhan, China. In some country second wave is already started whereas third wave is being experienced by some. Currently second wave of COVID disaster is hitting Indian territory and economy badly. The impact seen in India can be counted automatically in lives and economy of Nepal since both of them share open border policy. The restrictive orders from district offices is being given in Nepal whereas partly lockdown situation seen in India firstly. This is to harm economy less.     International monetary fund anticipated 3.5 % contractionary world economy in 2020 due to pandemic.  Big population of world that is depending on marginal revenue is badly influenced. In 2020 alone 100 million of world population is pushed in absolute poverty, the per capita income of 150 countries will be less than PCIs they had in 2019. This speaks a lot. Many countries th...

Flashback to MBA days

You Know Harry..

Dear Harry (first part) You might be walking alongside a river, taking a sunbath at the beach you love, cooking food that you wish to taste, right? I assume at least you miss me and Maddy when you go for third round of Vodka, you remember? You must likely seem to be shocked, amazed, or surely amused, how I came to know. Friendship is more than mere knowledge of a habit; it involves a clear understanding of heart and mind. Harry, in your last mail you put a great concern about our lost friend, Maddy somewhere in rural Nepal and who hardly gives a reply to phone calls, SMS, mails, and, a video call is out of the question. On last Friday, we had a guest from far-western village of Nepal in solukumbu, our restaurant. He was from Sankapur village some near to Shikarpur village. You know, he is not only near resident of Shikarpur, Maddy resides, also knows him in person.   Harry it is us who nicked name him “Maddy” whereas people knows him by his real name “Man bahadur poudel”....
